The back channels have been MAGIC the past couple of weeks making the wade fishing on the ‘root very tempting. Aside from having lots of rising fish in fun conditions, the back channels usually keep you separate from boat traffic and offer you a spring creek like perspective. Good stuff. Mahogany patterns of all sorts in the size 14 to 16 range have been taking fish, but a D&D mahogany cripple has been the best for us in quiet water conditions. On the main river, a sparkle dun mahogany or #14 purple haze followed by a tiny (size 18 or 20) standard Adams has been working well both prospecting and fishing to rising fish. By Monday, expect your bread and butter (on the surface) to be a 2 hour window for baetis “heat” of the day. Double beaded stones and red copper Johns are a good place to start subsurface. The lower river below Florence has been so-so with streamers lately.
