Bitteroot Fishing Report – 3/22

L-32

The Skwalas are popping! With last nights weather and decent weather on the horizon, it’s perfect timing.  The flow on the Bitterroot today is right around 1400 cfs in town and the clarity is still excellent. With the bugs popping in larger quantities and fish starting to chow’em, you’re going to want to be fishing on top. using a low riding pattern that sits right in the surface film of the water has historically fished the best. The Flush floater Skwala, rogue Skwalas, Chernobyl Skwala, the little olive stone or a bullet head will all work well. If you need to go underneath, little black and olive stone fly nymphs, pheasant tails, San Juan worms and egg patterns are your best bets.
