Bitteroot Fishing Report – 4/7

L-15

The flows on the Bitterroot today are hanging around 2320 cfs here in town and the clarity is still pretty decent despite the bump in flows. More warm weather on the way so expect the Bitteroot to continue to climb. When the river comes up, the fish get pushed to the banks so pounding the banks with a streamer is a good choice. Fish big and dark streamers like a double gonga, double dirty-hippie, party girl, or a lil’ kim. Dry fly fishing is still a good option in the afternoon. Skwalas, march bowns, and baetis are all on the menu. Fishing a skwala with a dropper will be a very productive combo. For a dropper, use a hare’s ear, amber prince, mighty may sloan, jigstone, or a San Juan. Use caution while wading as the flows continue to rise.
