Bitteroot Fishing Report – 5/1

L-73

The Bitterroot is dropping like everything else this week. It’s down to around 4080 cfs with decent clarity. With the warmer weather we have coming up this week expect the flows to bump back up. You can expect the fish to be displaced out of the main channel so towards the banks and keep an eye out for back and side channels. Expect to be fishing tandem nymph rigs and streamers. A tandem rig with a Pat’s rubber leg, pheasant tail, superman, big green machine, or a San Juan worm will get it done. If you want to swing some streamers, use big dark colored buggers and sculpin patterns tight to the banks. In higher flows like this, getting your junk to the fish can be tricky. Using heavier than usual bugs and giving them an extra second or two to get down can make a big difference.
