Bitteroot Fishing Report – 7/28

standing

With water temps climbing above 70 degrees we are no longer recommending fishing after 2 o’ clock. We are also cutting back our full day floats down to half day floats. Its time to give the trout a break and protect our local resources for the future. Feel free to call the shop if you have any questions.

More of the same with the lower river near Missoula consistently running temperatures in the danger zone while the upper Bitterroot continues to be some of the coldest water in the area. So . . . yeah, you’ll want to be on the upper/mid and NOT lower river. Prospects are definitely better hitting the early morning hatches of PMDs and being off the water by about 2. The river near Darby is peaking out at about 66 degrees these days while the lower river near Missoula has hit 73 the last 3 out of 4 days.

HATCHES/Flies: Caddis, BWOs, Golden Stones, Baetis, PMDs, yellow sallies
