“Ye gods of this land! Preserve my son, the last and only anchor of my house, now settled in Thrace, the land of snow, safe in the keeping of his father’s friend. Some fresh disaster is in store, a new strain of sorrow will be added to our woe. Such ceaseless thrills of terror never wrung my heart before.”

The Bitterroot has been an odd cat this season. In previous years, the bug activity has been exceptional, and therefore brought a lot of pressure with it. But this year, the bug activity has been inconsistent at best, and pressure has gone elsewhere (namely, the Blackfoot). With the streamer bite picking up, the heading out to the Bitterroot is certainly worth your time, but understand that it’s a day-to-day thing, with some days being way better or way worse than others. For dry flies, use parachute adams, October caddis, tricos, Hecubas, BWOs, baetis, and attractors. For nymphs, use prince nymphs, copper Johns, micro mayflies, caddis pupae, san juan worms, etc.
