Bitterroot Fishing Report - 4/4
Kingfisher guide James Quigley with a Bitterroot Hog

Beginning in April, once a week we will post a brief description of a rig we saw during the previous week that had one of our Kingfisher stickers on the window. When you recognize it as being your car described in our hatch report, stop into the shop and pick out 2 dozen nymphs or dries on us!!

This week’s winner of the two dozen free flies, just for having a Kingfisher sticker in his window, is a….. (drum roll)

Blue Ford Bronco: with the last two digits of the license plate being… 58

Drive your rig down to the shop and pick up your bugs!  Thanks for being a Kingfisher customer.

The flows on the Bitterroot today are hanging around 2200 cfs here in town, and the clarity is still excellent.  We’re just starting to see a couple March browns popping along with the skwalas and midges.  The best dry fly fishing has been rocking around 1pm.  As far as what the fish have been keying in on has been wishy-washy, so be ready to swap out flies until you figure out what is working.  A dry dropper rig has been the best bet in the morning with a low riding skwala and a size 16 pheasant tail about 18 inches behind.  The streamer bite has also been noteworthy with black and olive sculpin styled streamers fishing best.  Most of the big fish have been hanging out tight to the banks or in the back channels.  There’s big time construction going on at the Florence Bridge so you’ll want to avoid that. The east side of Victor channel has obstruction issues as well.
