Bitterroot Fishing Report - 4/8

Beginning in April, once a week we will post a brief description of a rig we saw during the previous week that had one of our Kingfisher stickers on the window. When you recognize it as being your car described in our hatch report, stop into the shop and pick out 2 dozen nymphs or dries on us!!

It’s going to be a beautiful day up on the Bitterroot today.  With a flow around 2500 cfs here in town and good clarity, the bugs will be popping and the fish will be looking up for them.  Look for your best top water action starting around 1pm or even earlier.  Low riding skwala patterns with a strap hanger about 18 inches off the back are still working best mid day.  If things are slow in the morning, sub surface skwala nymphs will be a good bet.  For a skwala nymph, a dark bodied double beaded stone, olive Pat’s rubber legs, prince nymphs or peacock stones will all work.  The morning is also a good time to swing a streamer until the top water action starts to warm up.  Use a darker bugger, sculpzilla or zonker.  Fish those meat bundles tight to the banks and on the swing.  Today’s forecast has a high of 71 with sunshine and extra smiles.
