Bitterroot Fishing Report – 5/15

Blackfoot River Fishing Report - 4/14

The river dropped… then it shot back up above 5000cfs and is still there.  The fishing has been very hard to peg with the rapidly changing conditions.  There have been reports of some salmon flies popping but not in any substantial numbers, they half to be just around the corner.  Most of the fish have been caught on nymphs right off the banks, but there have been some random eats on top, so be prepared with a couple Parachute adams, Purple hazes, and grey drake extended bodies.  For subsurface patterns, prince nymphs, pheasant tails, San Juan worms, Double beaded stones, Pat’s rubber legs, Red fox squirrels, or a hares ear nymph should work decently.  The main stem is much more boater friendly right now with the higher flows but the back and side channels are giving pretty decent options to the wade fisherman.
