Bitterroot Report – 11/7

While there won’t be big bugs coming off midday, there will still be pretty decent and predictable midday dryfly action on baetis and/or midges rain or shine.  Before and after this dryfly window, you’ll want to be focusing your efforts subsurface just like you do in early spring.  Egg patterns, red San Juans , copper Johns, Brooke’s stones will all take fish under an indicator.  Much like the Clark Fork, working areas of known spring seeps will go a long way towards upping your success rate.  If the midday action is slow on dries, working small midge type patterns (we like red or black palominos) just 10 to 15″ of sink can often reveal upper water column feeding that often goes unnoticed this time of year.
