Bitterroot Report – 6/17

Rock Creek Fishing Report - 3/27

S-8The bright sun is no longer a novelty on the ‘root and the fish have adapted.  Expect good fishing with golden stones, PMDs, drakes and then the later in the afternoon caddis blizzard which will go on into the evening.  We’ve been taking some nice fish on hoppers already and cripples seem to the the medicine for the backwater pods of selective sippers – a size 14 Lawson or Quiggly in brown or gray to be exact. There are still salmonflies kicking around on the uppermost river above the forks, but even up high, the fish are more focused on the smaller Bitterroot stones and more prolific hatches. The inside turns of riffled runs are beginning to get some of the summer character back in the dropping flows, and indicator nymphing these is a near sure bet with about any combo of mayfly nymphs.  Looks like another good day on the ‘root if you remember your sunscreen!
