Bitterroot Report – 7/25

S-15Hoot Owl restrictions are now in place for the entire Bitterroot river.  This means that no fishing is allowed between the hours of  2 P.M. and midnight.

More of the same with the lower river near Missoula consistently running temperatures in the danger zone while the upper Bitterroot continues to be some of the coldest water in the area.  So . . . yeah, you’ll want to be on the upper/mid and NOT lower river.  Prospects are definitely better hitting the early morning hatches of PMDs and tricos and being off the water by about 2.  It’s pretty much a non option at this point with the new restrictions.  Makes sense anyway just for productivity and comfort’s sake both yours and the fishes’.  The river near Daby is peaking out at about 66 degrees these days while the lower river near Missoula has hit 74 the last 4 out of 5 days.
