Bitterroot Report – 8/2

S-12Hoot Owl restrictions are now in place for the entire Bitterroot river.  This means that no fishing is allowed between the hours of  2 P.M. and midnight.

The uppermost ‘root is still staying very cool and even the lower river near Missoula topped out with a water temp of 68 degrees yesterday.  Nice to have a break in the heatwave!  While the sudden cool down would keep you fishing productively into the evening, the hoot owl restrictions are still in place requiring you to stop fishing at 2 p.m.  Not a huge issue, though, since your morning prospects are still very good.  Expect the best of it to be between about 11 and 2 though.  PMDs and to a lesser degree, tricos,  will be the name of the game in the cloudy and humid weather.  Smaller attractors like a #14 royal stimi should get some attention too.  Put a small p-tail dropper about 15″ below your attractors to up your odds.  It’ll be nice to not have to be bouncing off inner tubers today too!
