Dry fly fishing Bitterroot river

The first of the Skwalas have started popping! With last nights warmer
temperatures and decent weather on the horizon, it's perfect timing.
The flow on the Bitterroot today is right around 2000 cfs in town
and the clarity is still excellent. With the bugs popping in larger
quantities and fish starting to chow'em, you're going to want to be
fishing on top. using a low riding pattern that sits right in the surface
film of the water has historically fished the best. Gould's half down Skwala,
the widow maker Skwala, Lanier's Skwala, the little olive stone or a
bullet head will all work well. If you need to go underneath, little
black and olive stone fly nymphs, pheasant tails, San Juan worms and
egg patterns are your best bets. If you plan on wade fishing, The
river is low enough now where it's manageable and If you're floating
below victor, stay in the center channel, the right channel has big
obstructions.
