Bitterroot River Hatch Report – 4/16

DSCN0999Good stuff in the mornings with a nymph dropper deep, then it becomes a predictable dry fly affair towards midday. The cloudy, blowing and snowy weather has been giving it up substantially better than the calm break when the sun comes out. Even in the winter-like conditions, March browns, skwalas and blue wings have the fish looking up starting about noon. The streamer action on the lower sections of the ‘root has been ok, but nothing like the Blackfoot or, especially, Rock Creek. Looks like more wind and clearer skies today so better be ready with a variety of layers and a variety of flies.

HATCHES/Flies:
skwalas, caddis, nemouras, March Browns, capnias, BWOs

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The Kingfisher is the largest dealer of Simms Fishing Products in the Rocky Mountains and the lone dealer of Sage flyrods in the Missoula area.
