Blackfoot Fishing Report – 5/18

Salmon Fly Fishing on Rock Creek

L-53

The Blackfoot has really dropped into shape. It is flowing at 2370 cfs and clarity is improving daily. Caddis in the evening have been out in a big way, though nymphing during the day has been the most productive. For nymphs use pheasant tails, supermans, San Juan worms, north fork specials, bread crusts, lightning bugs and rubberlegs. Streamers should turn some big fish too. The best luck with streamers has been with big dark articulated junk. Keep in mind the river is still a little high. In these conditions the fish get moved from mid river to the banks to escape the strong current. So keep your rigs tight to the bank. Do not underestimate throwing dries tight to the willows.

HATCHES: baetis, mothers day caddis, grey drakes, skwalas
