Blackfoot Fishing Report – 5/26

L-69

The Blackfoot is slowly rising through the weather but should be a great option for the day. The flow is just a little over 3210cfs and hasn’t had any critical changes in the last 5 days. The streamer fishing has been very good with dry/droppers and tandem nymph rigs coming in close second. The dry fly fishing has been great in the afternoon when the conditions allow. For streamers sex dungeons, double gongas, Articulated sparkle minnows, black sculpzillas, party girls, and Krelex minnows have been working well. The best luck has been a combination of dead drifting them through the deeper pools and yankin’em off the banks and through any pocket water. For dry dropper rigs a big purple or orange chubbie or a similarly colored hippie stomper should carry most of the underwater menu items. For droppers and tandem nymph rigs use big pat’s rubber legs, amber princes, pheasant tails, bread crusts, psycho princes, San Juan worms, or skipper stones. Drakes, BWO’s, and a few salmon flies have been spotted so have some bigger rogue salmon flies, purple hazes, big standard parachute adams, and extended body drakes for when the hatches start. No matter what you’re using, look for the soft water on the banks and any slack seams to pound. The fish are going to be trying to escape the heavier currents so look for any spots lazy fish would sit and you should find one or two.

HATCHES: caddis, baetis, and drakes.
