Blackfoot report – 5/3

DSCN1711As we predicted, the Blackfoot is coming into shape HUGE right now with falling water levels and rising water temps due to the warmer days.  The nights are still staying below 40 which should keep things firmed up a bit in the mountains which means at least a weekend of rock and roll fishing on the Blackfoot.  The wind may be a bit of a pain up here today, but conditions suggest you should do well with oversized dries (para Adams, Para Xs) and of course, streamers.  Look for darker bodied junk to work best for you in the overcast conditions. Hanging red San Juans 20″ under your dries will be a good way to prospect on top and subsurface at the same time.  By tomorrow, this river should be a fool for attractors in larger sizes as well as the afternoon and evening caddis.
