Blackfoot report – 5/5

BR-5-1-L-8The river’s on the drop as of this morning, but don’t expect that to last beyond today.  The weather for the week ahead is almost sure to unleash the May/June blow-out.  Today’s the day if you want to hit this river anytime soon.  You’re still going to be dealing with the wind that was such a pain up there yesterday.  Hopefully the sun will at least keep things warmer while you’re prospecting.  Hanging red San Juans 20″ under your dries (or even short trailed behind your streamers on heavier tippet) will be a good way to “test the waters”.   If there’s any kind of break in the wind, or if things just aren’t as bad as predicted, March browns, blue wings and maybe afternoon caddis will help you trap a trout or two.
