Blackfoot Report – 6/29

DSCN4066The blazing sun that can make the other rivers temperamental is Blackfoot happiness due to the river’s less glassy surface characteristics.  Bright sun will have the fish up and eating terrestrials such as ants and hoppers today, with spruce moths just around the corner.  There are still remnant salmonflies on the mid and upper reaches of the river, but smaller golden stones and PMDs are the main attraction until the afternoon caddis get going.  Tandem nymph rigs are still a sure thing up here with brown silli legs or purple princes pounding the crap out of any fatties unwilling to eat on top.  You’ll likely have to sacrifice the lower river, at this point, to the tube brigade, but midriver and higher should provide some very good fishing today.
