Blackfoot Report – 7/24

S-1The Blackfoot is running 815 cfs this morning compared with 1080 cfs a year ago today.  Both the high temperature readings for yesterday and a year ago yesterday hit 69.  The cool nights are helping big time!  For now, water temps on the Blackfoot are staying in safe range, but things are warm enough to keep the midday fishing less than stellar. Focusing on the early mornings and hitting the water with PMDs and spruce moths right out of the chute is a good plan.  Batman nymphs or something similar is a nearly sure thing on the Blackfoot these days.  Avoid the lower river unless you plan on being on the water at first light and hitting your destination take-out about noon to avoid the splash and giggle crowd.

1/2 OFF Fridays.  50% Off your 1st dozen nymphs and dries!  Every Friday – Every Week

HATCHES: caddis,  PMDs, yellow sallies, hoppers and spruce moths – terrestrials in general

PATTERNS: golden stones in sizes 12 to 14. Attractor stuff in a size 8 or 10, elk hair or other caddis in a 12 or 14. Batman/ p-tail or red San Juan nymph rigs.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  While the evening fishing can still be very good, the warmest water temps of the day are an evening phenomenon and have recently been peaking out around 69 degrees.  Be aware of the peaks and how the fish are doing in general.
