Blackfoot River Fishing Report – 4/19

Blackfoot River Fishing Report - 4/19

Blackfoot River Fishing Report - 4/19Beginning in April, once a week we will post a brief description of a rig we saw during the previous week that had one of our Kingfisher stickers on the window. When you recognize it as being your car described in our hatch report, stop into the shop and pick out 2 dozen nymphs or dries on us!!

This week’s winner of the two dozen free flies, just for having a Kingfisher sticker in his window, is a….. (drum roll)

Black Suburban: with the last two digits of the license plate being… 90

Drive your rig down to the shop and pick up your bugs!  Thanks for being a Kingfisher customer.

The Blackfoot is continuing to drop and the clarity is improving with every step.  You can expect the river to fish decently enough to justify the trip up here today.  With a forecast of 65 degrees and almost no wind, at the very least you’ll have a beautiful float.  You can expect a tandem nymph rig to fish best till about mid day.  Around noon there’s a pretty good chance you’ll see some march browns popping.  If you start to see the mayflies hatching a size 14 or 16 parachute Adams or purple haze should be effective.  Streamers should turn some big fish too.  The best luck with streamers has been with big dark articulated junk.  Keep in mind the river is still a little high.  In these conditions the fish get moved from mid river to the banks to escape the strong current.  So keep your rigs tight to the banks.  the flow at Bonner is sitting around 2200 cfs.

Browns Lake is iced off, open and fishing well. However, the private land owners surrounding Browns Lake are now enforcing there NO trespass rights. All the bank fishing with the exception of the public land at the south and east sides of the lake is now closed to walking. We have provided a map showing the property lines and places to legally access the lake. The boundaries highlighted with green are open to the public.
