Blackfoot River Fishing Report – 4/23

L-DSC_0159Beginning in April, once a week we will post a brief description of a rig we saw during the previous week that had one of our Kingfisher stickers on the window. When you recognize it as being your car described in our hatch report, stop into the shop and pick out 2 dozen nymphs or dries on us!!

The flow on the Blackfoot is around  3400 cfs at Bonner and the clarity is poor.  With the warmer days and nights we had combined with the rain for today, the flows on the Blackfoot are taking off.  The river is by no means totally blown out, but the fish will not be in their usual holds.  You can expect to find the fish tight to the banks and in any back channels and side pockets you come across. Pheasant tails, Pat’s rubber legs, fast water princes, regular princes, flashback copper johns, San Juan worms and egg patterns are all good bets underneath.  In the way of streamers, big dark colored articulated patterns fished right on the banks are an excellent choice too.

If you own and iPad 1 or 2, we have 6 MFC original iPad covers to give away.  The first people through the door get’em!!! If you come in with a kingfisher tattoo on your forehead you can have two!!!

Browns Lake is iced off, open and fishing well. However, the private land owners surrounding Browns Lake are now enforcing there NO trespass rights. All the bank fishing with the exception of the public land at the south and east sides of the lake is now closed to walking. We have provided a map showing the property lines and places to legally access the lake. The boundaries highlighted with green are open to the public.
