Blackfoot River Fishing Report – 4/25

L-DSC_0159Beginning in April, once a week we will post a brief description of a rig we saw during the previous week that had one of our Kingfisher stickers on the window. When you recognize it as being your car described in our hatch report, stop into the shop and pick out 2 dozen nymphs or dries on us!!

The Blackfoot has definitely grown in the last few days.  It’s flow at Bonner is around 3700 cfs and looks like it’s about to stabilize with the colder weather we have forecasted.  If you’re heading up here you can expect streamers and tandem nymph rigs to be your best bet.  Streamers fished with a sink tip at the banks can be very effective this time of year.  As far as the tandem nymph rigs, use San Juan worms, dark bodied double beaded stones, olive Pat’s rubber legs, prince nymphs, micro stones, copper johns and pheasant tails.  For streamers, big double bunnies, Dalai lamas, big buggers and sculpzillas.  Like we said earlier this year for these conditions, the fish get moved from mid river to the banks to escape the strong current.  So keep your rigs tight to the banks.

If you own and iPad 1 or 2, we have 6 MFC original iPad covers to give away. The first people through the door get’em!!! If you come in with a kingfisher tattoo on your forehead you can have two!!!

Browns Lake is iced off, open and fishing well. However, the private land owners surrounding Browns Lake are now enforcing there NO trespass rights. All the bank fishing with the exception of the public land at the south and east sides of the lake is now closed to walking. We have provided a map showing the property lines and places to legally access the lake. The boundaries highlighted with green are open to the public.
