Blackfoot River Fishing Report – 5/15

L-MARCO-3

The Blackfoot has continued to drop through the week and has stabilized nicely.  The flow above Bonner is sitting at 2500cfs and should keep dropping slowly.  The big bugs (salmon flies) have made their first appearance but not quite in any big numbers yet.  The fish have been looking up for them with Rogue Salmons, sofa pillows, and flush floaters working best.  Tandem nymph rigs are going to be your main producers till things really get going with pheasant tails, hares ears, double beaded stones, egg patterns, Pat’s rubber legs, micro stones, prince nymphs, and San Juan worms.  If you do see any other top water activity, you can expect some Drakes and March Browns with a purple haze, parachute adams, or big cripple working best for those.  The fish are still sitting off the banks, so keep your rigs tight to the shoreline.

HATCHES: a smattering of smug Heptageniidae and bodacious baetidae and the random salmon fly
