Blackfoot River Fishing Report – 6/30

Guided Float trips on the Missouri with The Kingfisher Fly Shop

Clark Fork River Fishing Report - 4/10With the high temperatures and low flows, the Blackfoot has continued to fish really well. At this point in the summer, it would take the MVP title for the season. Don’t expect to be alone out here, though. Everyone wants to see what the hype is about. For dries use big elk hair caddis, spruce moth patterns, hoppers, Chernobyls, Stimulators, Rogue stones, half downs, bullet heads, parachute adams, and purple hazes. For nymphs use Pat’s rubber legs, princes, double beaded stones, micro stones, San Juan worms and batman nymphs. For streamers use big dark double bunnies, sculpzillas, mouthwashes, standard buggers, sparkle minnows and dark articulated patterns.

Given the historically hot conditions, we’ve started voluntarily doing hoot owl fishing.  Since the water temperatures on the rivers have been in the mid 70’s by mid afternoon, the survivability of the fish drops dramatically from the low oxygenated water.  It’s in the best interest of the resource to stop around 2pm and give those little fishes a break.  It’s just a matter of time before FWP follows suit.  Thanks for your cooperation.
