Blackfoot River Fishing Report – 8/22

Bitterroot Fishing Report - 4/3

With the coming fall weather and the nights cooling down into 40s and 50s, the Blackfoot’s restrictions have been lifted on the main stem.  The Hoot-Owl closures are still in place on the tributaries starting at 2pm, but the main stem is open all day long now.  The flows above Bonner are hanging at 435cfs and the rain last night didn’t do anything to the flows.  The morning fishing has been good with PMDs and tricos coming off after it warms up a little bit.  For the mid day fishing, a hopper dropper rig has been tough to beat.  Use a chubby Chernobyl or a golden stone in place of a hopper for a different option.  otherwise, BWOs, ants, beatles, and general attractors till the caddis hatch gets started in the evening.  For the last couple hours or the day, an x-caddis, Elk hair, or dancing caddis have been killer choices.  Streamers, as always, have been turning some big fish too.  Big dark articulated patterns or big heavy buggers in black or olive will work well for the bigger fish.
