Blackfoot River Fishing Report – 9/17

Blackfoot River Fishing Report - 3/25

With the push of cold weather and light rain this week, the fishing has really picked up with the change in weather.  the streamer fishing has really taken off and the arrival of the fall mayflies is making the top water fishing very noteworthy.  For top water bugs use Big parachute adams, mahoganies, purple hazes, Baetis, PMDs, hoppers when it warms up, and caddis in the evenings.  The October caddis have also shown up, though not quite in big numbers yet.  If you’re not seeing any trout actively feeding on top, you’ll probably half to go subsurface.  For nymphs use pheasant tails, copper johns, tiny hairs ears, lightning bugs, Montana princes, psycho princes, Pat’s rubber legs, and double beaded stones.  The flows are offering excellent wade fishing access and it’s going to get nothing but better from here till it freezes.  Hooray Fall!
