Blackfoot River Report – 3/31

KenBannersBT-042The Blackfoot is eating up this sunny warm weather, unfortunately, the hydrograph looks like it’s radically on the rise this morning on the lower river. So far it’s not a 200 cfs bump which is the critical number up here, and if it tails off, things could be good. Keep watching. The bugs are out and about in greater numbers with the warm-up and the fishing up here reflects that. Caddis and March Browns are taking the most fish for us on top, but the past few days has been streamer happiness for all you depth charge droppers (like ME!). Black with slow but nearly constant retrieving motions has been the best. A double beaded stone in gray with a red San Jaun dropper is working well under an indicator too. Like we said, this river is just aching to get turn the corner. Right now it’s fishing well enough to help spread out the ‘root boats for sure! Watch those flow charts!HATCHES: Caddis, nemouras, March Brows, BWOs, a skwala or two on the lower river.

PATTERNS: Size 12 elk hairs, parachute Adams or size 14 royal Wulffs, Powell’s bunny sculpins, whitlock sculpines in black. Red or pink San Jaun worms in tandem with size 12 or 14 hare’s ear nymphs.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: You know we’ll refill your Kingfisher label gink bottles for a buck dontcha?
