Blackfoot River Report: 5/1

BR-L-5The Blackfoot has stabilized for the most part and should begin to head back down quickly either today or tomorrow.  With the seemingly every changing weather forecasts, it now looks like runoff could be postponed at least a few more days as the daytime highs will be considerably lower than originally predicted.  Combine this with overnight lows still in the 30s and your window of potentially great fly fishing on the Blackfoot just got wider.  Look for very good March brown and caddis dry fly action as water levels drop.  The streamer fishing up here should also be GONZO as the water levels fall.  We’re always fans of black or brown, but if it get to be bright and sunny, look for yellow and chartreuse to be the colors of choice.
