Here is a write up on last years retreat
CFR Montana-Glacier Country
Casting for Recovery is all about hope. Hope is what makes it possible for breast cancer survivors to not just exist but to thrive in the face of their diagnosis. Through the simple tools of being in nature, challenging ourselves to learn new skills (fly fishing), and being with others who understand our stories and our experiences, life becomes richer and we become more than we ever thought possible. These are the experiences offered during a Casting for Recovery retreat. Our goal is to make Casting for Recovery available to breast cancer survivors residing in Montana.
The first CFR Montana Glacier Country (MT-2) retreat was held September 9 – 11, 2011 at the Glacier Outdoor Center, just outside the West Entrance to Glacier National Park. This retreat in western Montana hosted 14 participants in various stages of breast cancer treatment and recovery, and was modeled after other successful CFR programs with retreat staff, including psychosocial counselors, fly-fishing instructors, and volunteer community members, who were trained specifically for the Casting for Recovery program. Participants dined on tasty healthy food; experienced a warm, caring, and low-stress environment; and received support, medical information, and fly-fishing instruction from our skilled volunteer staff in a beautiful, natural setting. Evaluations from our participants suggest that CFR retreats can be life-changing.
