Clark Fork – 5/2

BR-5-1-S-8

REPORT:

The river is still on the drop today and will likely keep heading that direction through the weekend.  You also have the advantage of this being the 2nd day of bright sun rather than the 1st.  Runoff is just around the corner, but not as close as the exaggerated daytime highs that were predicted earlier this week suggested.  There’s going to be some CRAZY good skwala fishing over the next few days.  Look for good numbers of caddis, March browns and yellow sallies to round out the menu and anticipate the mid evening caddis to extend your dry fly success much later into the day.  Like the Missouri, the Clark will flat out give it up on streamers in falling water conditions.  Olive or black . . .rain or shine.  Lots of people out and about yesterday to float through the old Milltown Dam site.  The river is now open straight through making it possible for the first time in 106 years, to drift from the upper reaches, right into Missoula.  Good stuff!
