Clark Fork Fishing Report – 9/16

Bitterroot River Fishing Report - 3/25

L-79

More nice cloud cover, cooler temps and higher humidity in the forecast for the weekend – yee haw! The Clark has been fishing well. Like most of the area rivers, the cooler nights have been moving the best of the dryfly action closer to the middle of the day. Decent nymphing and streamer fishing can be had pretty much right when you hit the water in the morning. Black buggers with a red San Juan worm trailer about 10″ off the back have been a good setup for us in the morning. You may have some trico action spot to spot, but they’ve been tapering off big time. Over sized (from the naturals you’ll see) para Adams or another large mayfly pattern with a deep 20″ batman or similar nymph dropper have been an excellent prospecting rig until pods of feeders really get going about 1:30. Sparkle duns or CDC mayflies in a 14 or 16 will likely get the afternoon sippers that ignore other options

HATCHES: caddis, hoppers, nocturnal stones, tricos, pmds

FLIES: Morris Hoppers, chubby chernobyls, caddis, Prince nymphs, golden stones/nymphs, streamers.
