Clark Fork Report – 10/19

Streamers are still rockin’ it on the upper river and the dryfly action has ramped up considerably on pretty much all the lower reaches from town down to St. Regis.  The hatches have gotten a bit more consistent too, and when the bugs are out, the fish have been up and eager.  We’ve also been having some very decent dryfly action both before and after the main hatch with mahogany sized parachutes before hand and then post hatch with smaller soft hackles fished JUST subsurface on a barely faster than the current swing almost until dark.  Crazy emerger rise forms going great guns LATE in the day recently.  The Schroeder’s hopper/shallow size 14 p-tail dropper has been working well too midday when it appears the hatch isn’t going to pop.  We had one of our best Clark Fork streamer days of the year this past week down around Forest Grove.  Forest green was absolutely the color of the day and the exact same buggers in other colors remained unmolested.  Things are looking good for the weekend on all the local rivers!
