Clark Fork Report – 10/2

The lower river is still seeing the bump in flow and sedimentation that has pushed through the other tributary rivers.  It’s starting to turn back down, but for now, conditions mid river and lower are still less than ideal.  Factor in the wind they’re calling for and the lower river will be challenging.  The uppermost sections are pretty much stable and fishing well with yellow buggers.  Over-sized (from the naturals you’ll see) para Adams or another large  mayfly pattern with a deep 20″ batman or similar nymph dropper will be about as good a prospecting rigs as any.  Once you see risers, smaller sparkle duns or button emergers ought to do the trick.  Our best fishing on calm days has been from about 1:30 until 4.
