Clark Fork report – 5/5

DSCN1701

REPORT:

You may get today and part or all of tomorrow on the lower river before the next big push of water hits.  Today is definitely the day to get out on most of the local waters to catch the calm before the high water storm.  More wind in store today it looks like, but at least it’ll be warmer.  The clouds and scattered rain yesterday produced some decent fishing with the Rogue golden pictured above with a deep red San Juan or brown rubber legs dropper.  Casting this rig was a pain in the breeze, though and indicator nymphing the worm/rubber legs was a much easier prospect.  Look for oversized mayfly dries such as #10 para Adams and the like to get the attention of the fish in the gnarly wind if you see ANY March browns.  Goldens on a short 3x leash blasted noisily into the banks will be a decent bet too.  Keep your streamers small, more refined and lighter in color in the suddenly sunny conditions today.
