Clark Fork Report – 7/16

S-14***Be aware that the Big Eddy (Superior access) to Dry Creek stretch is closed due to fire fighting efforts on the West Mullen fire.  You can still take out in Superior and launch at Dry Creek, but the section between those accesses is off limits to all recreation**

The lower river near St. Regis hit the 70 degree mark yesterday and will likely bump that high again today unless we get some cloud cover.  It’s not been a huge issue so far, but it’s something to be aware of.  The midday fishing continues to be pretty decent, but the blazing sun beating down from above and reflecting back up at you from the water may motivate you to avoid the heat of the day swelter.  Early and late fishing has been the best anyway. Wind could also be an issue today with predictions of gusts up to 22 mph. On some sections, the tricos are making a strong morning appearance and on the lower river, spruce moths have become a midday focus as well.  The fishing remains considerably better from below Missoula all the way to St. Regis than it is on the upper stretches.
