Clark Fork Report – 9/13

TricDSC_0428The weather looks to finally be moving in our favor.  Along with the major cool down in the forecast should come the start of some of the fall hatches and more consistent daytime fishing.  While the Clark has been fishing well section to section on a hit and miss basis, the blazing sun certainly hasn’t helped your prospects much.  Even the little bit of could cover we had a week ago gave you a glimpse of the better fishing to come.  Water temps are staying decent and the morning fishing with tricos and buggers is still the most consistent option.  The evening fishing is also an option with caddis and smaller profile mayfly patterns.  Quartering upstream with soft hackles right after dark then a slow tight-lined swing through the drift has been getting us some VERY big fish lately.  Keeping your morning trico offering about 10″ behind a marker fly (like a royal Wulff) will help you keep an eye on your bug.
