Clark Fork River Fishing Report - 4/10

Clark Fork River Fishing Report - 4/10REPORTS:

Beginning in April, once a week we will post a brief description of a rig we saw during the previous week that had one of our Kingfisher stickers on the window. When you recognize it as being your car described in our hatch report, stop into the shop and pick out 2 dozen nymphs or dries on us!!

This week’s winner of the two dozen free flies, just for having a Kingfisher sticker in his window, is a….. (drum roll)

Forest Green Toyota Tundra: with the last two digits of the license plate being… 09

Drive your rig down to the shop and pick up your bugs!  Thanks for being a Kingfisher customer.

The Clark Fork has started to show its ugly side again with the warmer weather we’ve had.  With the flows sitting around 4500 cfs above town and the clarity diminishing as fast as the fishing quality.  You may want to try other waters today.  If you are so inclined, the upper sections would be your best bet.  Black streamers might snag some big boys, but dark bodied double beaded stones, San Juan worms, micro stones, and Pat’s rubber-legs should get a few eats underneath.  When the flows bump this much, it’s important to remember the fish like to sit right off the bank or back in side channels where it’s less work.  Keep this in mind and you should be able to find a couple trout ready to play ball.

HATCHES: midges, capnias

FLIES: Small prince nymphs, bacon and egg combos (San Juans in tandem with an egg patter), Griffith’s gnats and zebra midges on sunny days, slow moving or jigged rabbit streamers in front of sighted pike.

Other Info: The Kingfisher is the largest dealer of Simms Fishing Products in the Rocky Mountains.
