Clark Fork River Fishing Report – 4/23

Bitterroot dry fly fishing 3/26

Bitterroot Fishing Report - 4/10

REPORTS:

Beginning in April, once a week we will post a brief description of a rig we saw during the previous week that had one of our Kingfisher stickers on the window. When you recognize it as being your car described in our hatch report, stop into the shop and pick out 2 dozen nymphs or dries on us!!

The Clark Fork is starting to crank with the warm weather we’ve had this last week.  The flow above town is hanging around 6000 cfs and growing.  The clarity is getting poor and the fish are displacing. When the flows bump this much, it’s important to remember the fish like to sit right off the bank or in side-channels where it’s less work.  This is key to catching fish in these conditions,  keep this in mind and you should do decently if you’re ready to tolerate the poor weather forecast for today.  If you are heading this direction, the upper sections would be your best bet.  Black and olive buggers should snag some big boys, but dark bodied double beaded stones, San Juan worms, micro stones, Pat’s rubber-legs, fast water princes and red copper johns should get a more eats underneath. It’s also important to remember the dangers that come with higher flows.  Watch your step and keep an eye out for floating debris and you should be fine.

If you own and iPad 1 or 2, we have 6 MFC original iPad covers to give away.  The first people through the door get’em!!! If you come in with a kingfisher tattoo on your forehead you can have two!!!

Browns Lake is iced off, open and fishing well. However, the private land owners surrounding Browns Lake are now enforcing there NO trespass rights. All the bank fishing with the exception of the public land at the south and east sides of the lake is now closed to walking. We have provided a map showing the property lines and places to legally access the lake. The boundaries highlighted with green are open to the public.
