Clark Fork River Fishing Report – 4/3

Clarkfork Fishing report - 4/3

Clarkfork dry fly fishingREPORTS:

Beginning in April, once a week we will post a brief description of a rig we saw during the previous week that had one of our Kingfisher stickers on the window. When you recognize it as being your car described in our hatch report, stop into the shop and pick out 2 dozen nymphs or dries on us!!

The Clark Fork got another push of water this weekend and with the flows hanging around 2500 cfs above town, it’s gonna be a little slow. The Clarity is still a little soupy with the higher flows, so you’ll half to be thorough when working a run. The bugs on the menu today are the San Juan worm, pheasant tail, pat’s rubber leg, fast water prince, egg patterns, red copper johns and prince nymphs. There is the chance for a midge hatch mid-day around 1pm. I recommend a tiny adams if you can find any fish feeding, otherwise go subsurface and keep you bugs tight to the bank. This can also be a great time to pick up some bigger fish with a streamer. Use dark bodied streamers and look for back channels and pockets of soft water for the giants.

HATCHES: midges, capnias

FLIES: Small prince nymphs, bacon and egg combos (San Juans in tandem with an egg patter), Griffith’s gnats and zebra midges on sunny days, slow moving or jigged rabbit streamers in front of sighted pike.

Other Info: The Kingfisher is the largest dealer of Simms Fishing Products in the Rocky Mountains.
