Clark Fork River Fishing Report – 4/8

Clark Fork River Fishing Report - 4/5

Clark Fork River Fishing Report - 4/8REPORTS:

Beginning in April, once a week we will post a brief description of a rig we saw during the previous week that had one of our Kingfisher stickers on the window. When you recognize it as being your car described in our hatch report, stop into the shop and pick out 2 dozen nymphs or dries on us!!

The Clark Fork is flowing right around 3000 cfs above town and the clarity is still decent.  The bugs are coming off in good numbers and the trout are definitely moving for them now.  The fishing below town has been excellent mid day with skwalas and March browns.  The upper river is fishing well also, but it’s been more of a streamer game.  If you’re looking for some top water action, your best window will be from 1pm till about 4 or 5 pm.  Low riding skwala patterns like a bullet head or a window maker have been working best for the stoneflies.  If you start seeing march browns popping, toss on a size 14 or 16 parachute adams or pheasant tail parachute.  Fishing a dry dropper rig throughout the day will be your best bet though.  Fish you nymph about 18-20 inches off the back end with a low riding skwala on top and a dark skwala nymph behind.

HATCHES: midges, capnias

FLIES: Small prince nymphs, bacon and egg combos (San Juans in tandem with an egg patter), Griffith’s gnats and zebra midges on sunny days, slow moving or jigged rabbit streamers in front of sighted pike.

Other Info: The Kingfisher is the largest dealer of Simms Fishing Products in the Rocky Mountains.
