Clark Fork River Fishing Report – 5/4

Kingfisher Customer Ty Rodgers on the Blackfoot 4/8

The Clark Fork’s flows from the bottom to the top are doing very different things.  Above the confluence of the Blackfoot, the river is dropping at a pretty good pace.  Through town to the Bitterroot confluence, it has stabilized but not quite started dropping yet.  Below the confluence of the Bitterroot, it’s still rising.  The best fishing by far has been above town with dry/dropper rigs and tandem nymphs.  The dry fly fishing is definitely present so be prepared with some march brown, grey drake, and skwala patterns. For dries, big parachute adams, olive and purple chubbies, extended body drakes, and purple hazes have been working well.  For subsurface patterns use prince nymphs, Pheasant tails, Egg patterns, San Juan worms, Double beaded stones, Pat’s rubber legs, Red fox squirrels, and hares ear nymphs.  If you’re looking for some bigger fish, streamers have been the name of the game.  Use Krelex minnows, sparkle minnows, two tone buggers, and double bunnies.

HATCHES: March Browns, Skwalas, grey drakes
