Clark Fork River Fishing Report – 7/12

L-BR-L-24

With the dropping flows, the Clark Fork is in great shape and producing a lot of fish. Mid-day can be a little slower in the bright sun so you might half to go subsurface, but the mornings and evenings have been excellent. Bright sun isn’t really the best scenario for this river, but don’t be afraid to try weird things if stuff is getting slow (a hot, sunny float on Tuesday found that a dead-drifted, black bugger, of all things, turned the most fish). For dries, use elk hair and Goddard caddis’ in the evening, attractor patterns, golden rogues, salmon rogues or Gould’s half downs for the morning and afternoon. For nymphs, use Pat’s rubber legs, micro stones, prince nymphs, double beaded stones, San Juan worms, caddis pupae, Pheasant tails and batman nymphs. For streamers, use big black and olive patterns fished tight to the banks.
