Clark Fork River Fishing Report – 9/3

L-LS-3

The weather has really been improving with fall getting closer and the rain has really helped the smoke problem too.  With more rain forecast, the conditions will continue to get nothing but better.  The lower Clark Fork is going to be an excellent option for some great mayfly action, just make sure you bring a jacket today.  Hecubas, PMDs, and BWOs should be an all day affair.  If they’re not playing ball with the mayflies, use a hopper dropper rig with a pheasant tail, hares ear, lightning bug, or a copper john underneath.  Swinging some streamers in these conditions can be very worth while too.  Use a wooly bugger, sculpzilla, or mouth wash in black or olive and fish’em deep.  Expect a good caddis hatch later this evening with elk hairs or dancing caddis with a pupae hanging off the back end.  Swing the pupae through the tailouts, quartered down and across before the hatch really gets going.  You can have some crazy good luck with this method.

HATCHES: Hoppers, PMDs, caddis, BWOs, Hecubas, tricos, streamers
