Clarkfork River Fishing Report: 4/30

DSCN0526REPORT:

The upper end should fish well for you today having risen only 300 cfs in the past 48 hours.  The mid river (through town here) and the lower sections below about Tarkio are going to need a day to chill having seen increases up to 2000 cfs in 48 hours.  The river has stabilized and will be fishable again probably by tomorrow . . even down low.  We think some of the best fishing of the year on the Clark is due to happen in what appears to be a TINY window upcoming before serious high water lets loose.  By midweek through at least Saturday, we’re anticipating a skwala extravaganza, particularly on the lower river.  With air temps due to rise dramatically, look for good surface action on March browns, skwalas and caddis.  You could catch fish on buggers out there today, but tomorrow will be even better.  Like we said, if you head WAY up, you’ll do well today.

1/2 OFF Fridays.  50% Off your 1st dozen nymphs and dries!  Every Friday – Every Week

HATCHES: Skwalas, March browns, caddis, baetis, nemouras.

FLIES: Big button emergers or parachute patterns for the March browns, standard skwala junk with 18″ droppers.
