Clarkfork River Fishing Report: 5/1

BR-L-11

REPORT:

Conditions are MUCH better than they were on this river a year ago!  On this day in ’12, the river near St. Regis was already flowing 29,200 and dropping compared with 9450 and dropping.  Additionally, the weather that’s in the forecast is just about ideal to kick this river into high gear at least for awhile.  Runoff is just around the corner, but not as close at the exaggerated daytime highs that were predicted earlier this week suggested.  There’s going to be some CRAZY good skwala fishing over the next few days.  Look for good numbers of caddis, March browns and yellow sallies to round out the menu and anticipate the mid evening caddis to extend your dry fly success much later into the day.  Like the Missouri, the Clark will flat out give it up on streamer in fall water conditions.  Olive or black . . .rain or shine.
