Clarkfork River Report: 4/28

BS-L-3

REPORT:

Yeah, the wind.  Not a good thing.  Looks like it’s going to be bad today which is unfortunate since water levels are still relatively stable on this river and the cloud cover would also have been a huge benefit. Contrary to the silly little goofball who e-mails us accusatory tirades about how the Clark sucks, and that we’re lying, presumably because he couldn’t catch a fish on this  river even with dynamite, the fishing’s been good. Poor ‘lil poo . . your constant lack of success must be REALLY frustrating for ya! Maybe you should hire a guide and actually learn something.  You could also use an English tutor, too, so your rants sound less like they were written by Cindylu Who.  If you get any kind of break in the wind today, March browns and skwalas will get the fish looking up by mid afternoon.  Short of that, your best bet will be indicator nymphing the cycling backwaters and foamies with smaller, brown rubber legs and red San Juans.  If you have the skills (this excludes you Cindylu) to work buggers from a boat, olive or black have been taking fish on short line, light twitched sweeps along the banks.

HATCHES: Skwalas, March browns, caddis, baetis, nemouras.

FLIES: Big button emergers or parachute patterns for the March browns, standard skwala junk with 18″ droppers. Big prince nymphs, Peacock double beads, Griffith’s gnats and zebra midges on sunny days, slow moving crystal buggers or bunny junk in #8s that’re black, olive or rust, double dutch skwala, size 18 adams or purple haze.

Other Info: With Streamers remember: Bright Day – Bright Streamer. And of course the opposite entails.
