You can still catch fish over here . . .it’s the Missouri after all, but there is a MASSIVE algae bloom going on (nothing new here) that has nymphing nearly impossible and enough drifting algae to make the dryfly fishing frustrating. Even if you do hook up on the surface, the fatties dive immediately to the algae mats and mess up your happiness. It’s gotten to be a much tougher deal over here in spite of good hatches of PMDS, tricos and caddis. On the bright side, you’ll see LOTS of people “discovering” the algae right along with you so you won’t have to digest disgust all by yourself. You may want to wait a bit.

FLIES: Elk hairs, para and comparadun PMDS, standard para Adams in a 14-18, hoppers in a 10 or 12, brightly colored and sparsely tied streamers, soft hackles, the traditional bevvy of tailwater nymphs including zebras, rs2s, beerheads, lighting bugs, scuds . . .
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: We were on SCUBA in 1980 watching how the Missouri fish preferentially take downstream. Certainly better than graduation ceremonies!
