Missouri River Fishing Report – 6/5

Missouri River Hatch Report
Beginning in April, once a week we will post a brief description of a rig we saw during the previous week that had one of our Kingfisher stickers on the window. When you recognize it as being your car described in our hatch report, stop into the shop and pick out 2 dozen nymphs or dries on us!!

The Missouri has taken a big drop in flows these last few days as the state of Montana fills up the big chain reservoirs from the spring draw down. The flow below Holter Dam is right around 6300 cfs, down from 11,000 cfs three days ago. The flows are going to half to stabilize a little more before the fishing really picks up over here again, but that should only be a couple days (hopefully). The dries on the menu right now are small purple hazes, midge clusters, elk hair caddis, parachute baetis, baetis button emergers and small flying ants. For subsurface menu items look for sow bugs, czech nymphs, caddis pupae, scuds, small PTs and lightning bugs. It should get nothing but better from here on out.
